Frequently asked questions.

Why does Parathera offer four types of sessions?

Because clarity makes support more effective! Instead of an open-ended session where you and your Paratherapist have to figure out what you need in the moment, our four session types set clear expectations upfront—so you get exactly the experience you’re looking for, whether that’s venting, problem-solving, confidence-building, or celebrating a win. It also helps keep conversations focused and ensures you leave the session feeling like you got what you needed.

Why are sessions only 20-40 minutes?

Because focused conversations are the most impactful. A full hour can lead to wandering, over-processing, or diving into deeper work that’s better suited for therapy. 20-40 minutes keeps things targeted and actionable, helping you feel supported without the overwhelm.

If Paratherapists aren’t licensed, how do I know they’re qualified?

Paratherapists are thoroughly trained in active listening, reflective statements, strengths-based problem-solving, and other proven support techniques. While they’re not therapists, they are highly skilled in guiding conversations with warmth, empathy, and structure—which means you get high-quality emotional support without the cost, waitlists, or clinical focus of therapy.

How is Parathera different from therapy?

Parathera is not therapy—and that’s the point. Therapy is important when you need diagnosis, symptom reduction, or deep change work. But not every emotional struggle requires that level of care. Sometimes, you just need support. A space to be heard, to process, to feel lighter. Parathera offers real human connection, warmth, and practical guidance—a perfect complement to therapy or a useful tool on its own.

Why would I pay for Parathera instead of using a free support group or warm line?

Because structured, high-quality support matters. Free warm lines can be helpful, but they’re often staffed by volunteers with varying levels of experience, and availability can be hit or miss. Parathera guarantees a skilled, trained listener who is ready to meet you where you are, in a session designed to give you exactly what you need.

What if I don’t know which session type to choose?

No worries! We offer a 15-minute free consult to get you started. Or, start with a Vent session—it’s the most open-ended and gives you space to talk things through. Your Paratherapist can also help you figure out what kind of support feels right as you go.

Is this like talking to a life coach?

Not really. Coaching is typically goal-oriented and future-focused, while Parathera is about support in the moment—helping you feel steadier, clearer, or more confident right now. You don’t need a plan, a vision, or a goal—just yourself and whatever you’re carrying.

Do I have to commit to multiple sessions?

Nope! Parathera is zero commitment—book a single session whenever you need it, or get a package if you want an ongoing source of support. No subscriptions, no pressure—just support when you need it.
